When it comes to jeans, the A-list may favour on-trend skinnies but it seems that the average woman still prefers a classic bootcut.

Research by eBay has revealed that among the three million pairs of jeans purchased on the online auction site over the past year, 793,289 were bootcut – over three times more than any other style. Other best selling denim styles on eBay are straight leg jeans (215,353 sold), skinny jeans (214,405 sold), with flares and low rise trailing behind.

Denim leggings or ‘jeggings’ – one of the latest style to hit the market and favoured by many celebrities – only just made it into the top ten with 11,616 pairs sold in the last year. According to eBay fashion creative director, Andrea Linett, the enduring popularity of the bootcut style is down to the fact that it can be worn at any age and flatters most women’s figures. She said: “Specific jean styles come and go all the time, but women will always love their bootcut jeans. They’re a classic.

In recent years, sales of jeans have been driven by the popularity of premium denim, with brands such as 7 for All Mankind, J Brand, Paige Premium Denim and Citizens of Humanity leading the way.

Now these jeans don’t come cheap, they are £200+ a pair. It’s no wonder people are turning to eBay.  It’s a bit drastic when jeans are all about the fit and it’s such a mission trying to find a pair that fits you just right.
